Permanent Supportive Housing
VOA-Greater New York is one of the largest nonprofit developers and providers of permanent, supportive housing in the metro New York area. For many homeless people with physical or behavioral health challenges, possibly coupled with substance use issues, permanent housing and intensive support services can prevent chronic homelessness.

Commonwealth Residence is a 149-unit single room occupancy (SRO) residence that provides permanent, supportive housing to formerly homeless single men and women, including those diagnosed with a mental illness. Creston Avenue Residence provides permanent supportive housing and services to chronically homeless families and chronically homeless single adults who suffer from serious and persistent mental illness or who are diagnosed as mentally ill and chemically addicted (MICA). It also provides transitional housing to homeless veterans who qualify for HUD-VASH vouchers. Veterans receive supportive case management, coordination of medical services, and vocational counseling and are placed into permanent housing after two years. East 119th Street SRO provides permanent supportive housing for up to 174 individuals, including many veterans. Inside, shared kitchens and lounges have been remodeled and foster a feeling of community among the residents. Outside, a basketball court, chess tables and a landscaped courtyard that honors all the branches of the military provides recreation space that is both an invigorating and comforting place to be "at ease.” For information, call (646) 794-5000.
East 12th Street SRO is a 96-unit single room occupancy residence (SRO) providing permanent, supportive housing to formerly homeless single adults over the age of 55, and formerly homeless veterans. East Clarke Place Senior Residence is our newest affordable housing development. It provides 84 units of permanent supportive housing to low- and very-low income older adults (62+ years old), with 37 units set aside for seniors who are chronically homeless. For more information, click here.

Washington Avenue Apartments provide supportive housing to 11 homeless, single adults with a diagnosed serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) or who are diagnosed as mentally ill and chemically addicted (MICA). Five additional units of supportive housing are dedicated to chronically homeless families, or families at risk of becoming homeless, in which the head of household lives with substance use issues or a disabling medical condition.
