New Initiative Brings Mental Health Services On-Site for Domestic Violence Shelter Residents
Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-GNY) is proud to announce our partnership in a new city-led $5.8 million initiative that will bring free mental health services including screenings, counseling and medication management on-site to more than 10,000 adults and children living in the city’s domestic violence shelters, improving access and wait times. One third of the initial launch sites are VOA-GNY domestic violence shelters.
The initiative is in collaboration Mayor Eric Adams, NYC Health + Hospitals, the NYC Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration, the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, and the Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health.
VOA-GNY’s Jacqueline Collazo, Director of Domestic Violence Services, explains that these services are critical to helping survivors on their path to recovery and are “part of a trauma-informed approach to meeting survivors where they are and supporting them as they work towards independence and resilience.”
