VOA-Greater New York Attends Second Rally for #JustPay
At the second #JustPay rally held this year, more than 60 VOA-Greater New York staff members, including President and CEO, Myung Lee, joined a crowd of ~1,500 in front of New York City Hall demanding an end to poverty wages for city-contracted human services workers.
The campaign, organized by the Human Services Council, sheds light on the low wages and lack of annual cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) included in city contracts, resulting in some human services workers being eligible for the same services as the clients they work with every day. Instead, we're calling for an additional $86M to be added to the city's budget to cover a living wage floor of no less than $21/hour and an automatic COLA.
A number of City Council members showed their support by attending the rally:
- Nantasha Williams
- Althea Stevens
- Julie Menin
- Tiffany Cabán
- Sandy Nurse
- Erik Bottcher
- Lincoln Restler
The first #JustPay rally was held earlier this year in March.
