Wales Avenue Residence Receives License from New York State

Wales Avenue Residence, a transitional supportive housing facility that provides behavioral health services to 67 individuals with mental illness, was recently granted a three-year operating license from the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). Receiving a license for supportive housing from the OMH ensures that Volunteers of America-Greater New York’s (VOA-GNY) program at Wales meets the state’s standards of top quality care for those who live with mental health issues.

“Getting a three-year license demonstrates the State’s high degree of confidence in the quality clinical care and residential life for the people living at Wales as determined by the State of New York,” explains Brian Bardell, Assistant Vice President of Specialized Housing and Veterans Initiatives. “It sets our program apart from non-licensed programs and places VOA-GNY firmly into the behavioral health supportive housing community in New York State.”

Wales provides counseling, life skills training, recreational activity and wellness groups for residents. Those living at Wales are encouraged to become self-sufficient and live in the least restrictive environment as possible, supported by VOA-GNY’s 24-hour care and support.
