VOA's NIA Home for At-Risk Youth Receives Renovations and Holiday Cheer

The Nia Treatment Home, serving 12 to 17 year old male youths as they transition from foster care to adulthood, underwent much-needed renovations. ServiceMaster Restore and ServiceMaster Clean, through CBS EcoMedia's WellnessAd program, repaired the Home’s roof, provided new siding at the front of the home, installed new energy-efficient windows and a new screen door.

To celebrate the successful renovations, a check unveiling, followed by a tree-decorating event took place. ServiceMaster Restore and ServiceMaster Clean Northeast franchise owners, along with ServiceMaster television personality and spokesperson, Matt Paxton, and representatives of CBS EcoMedia and Volunteers of America came together to create a festive look and feel for the young residents who find refuge at the Nia Treatment Home.

The upgrades will help Volunteers of America-Greater New York continue to provide a safe, nurturing and comfortable environment for the children living in the home, which will also benefit from reduced energy, long-term maintenance and repair costs.

Since March 2012, Volunteers of America has partnered with CBS EcoMedia to identify and provide support for underfunded improvement projects in low-income and subsidized housing developments nationwide.

“Public-private partnerships, such as the one we enjoy with EcoMedia, allow us to measurably improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Tere Pettitt, president and CEO of Volunteers of America-Greater New York. “With ServiceMaster Restore’s generosity and expertise, we are greatly enhancing the living environment in one of our two youth treatment homes. The five teens who live there are receiving the support and learning the skills they need to grow up to be productive, independent young men. They call this house their home, and we thank ServiceMaster Restore for ensuring it’s a warm and comforting place for them, during the holidays and throughout the year.”
