VOA Hosts an Opening Night Screening of "Glen Campbell...I'll Be Me"

Volunteers of America-Greater New York hosted an opening night screening of "Glen Campbell... I'll Be Me,"  on October 24, 2014, at AMC Empire 25 Theaters on West 42nd Street. The moving film tells the story of the country music legend's struggle with Alzheimer's disease, and the challenges he and his family faced on a farewell tour that proved both difficult and inspiring. Volunteers of America participated in the national distribution of the film, which has served to open a dialogue on Alzheimer's, a disease that affects so many yet remains widely misunderstood.  

Glen Campbell's wife, Kim, and daughter Ashley, attended the screening and fielded questions at the post-screening Q&A, along with Director/Producer James Keach and Co-Producer Trevor Albert. The film was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Glen's farewell ballad, "I'm Not Going to Miss You." It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Song Written for Visual Media."

For more than 118 years, Volunteers of America-Greater New York has helped individuals and families in need overcome obstacles to living safe, healthy and productive lives in the community. Currently, more than 800 older adults live safely and securely in their own homes, rather than in an institutional setting, thanks to the supportive services they receive from Volunteers of America-Greater New York. In the near future, VOA-GNY will launch a training program for those who care for people with dementia.
